P L A Y R O O M
is there all together too much stuff in this playroom? yes, there is. this is real life, not showroom life. our playroom which also doubles as our school room, is chalk full of kids mania. the playroom began when only days after moving in we took out the oddly placed stone shelves in the brick fireplace, and then started demolishing the fireplace hearth that ran across the whole room. with a full length hearth, and a wall of windows, it left no room for storage. after removing the stone, a mason helped us finish the corners with clean edges and we added a hearth cap. we had to put several coats of paint to get the brick white, but once complete, we added the ikea billy bookcase, secured it to the brick, and trimmed it out with trim molding to give a more built in look. if you can imagine, there are even more toys and books within!
more on the playfort below, and if just have to know what that dollhouse looks like up close, you won’t regret peeking in! more on my daughters baby changing station if you want to see that transformation as well.
we replaced what we like to call “boob lights” with flat l.e.d.s which is a much easer solution than putting in can lighting. this last year was my first year homeschooling, so the play room got desks and chairs added. it’s a lot to fit into one room, but the room handles it all.

our fort is made from an ikea kura bed. my daughter and i sketched out our ideas which included a pully system, a jungle gym, and an under fort for costumes, and an upper level for plays and jumping. this fort has had tons of use from my kids and their friends! we added some large 2x4’s to make a frame for the jungle gym and to attach the wood slats up the ceiling. at the time we were low on tools, so i showed up at home depot with all my measurements 20 min. into a seahwaks game, and they graciously cut all my wood slats for me. once cut, screwing them in was quick work. we made the circle window from a round clock from goodwill, we took out the back of the clock and had a great circle with glass for much less than any circle window would have cost.
lanterns were from target, shelf bracket, rug,

some more photos of the before and during.
